How weddings have changed within the decades! From the handful to 400-500 invited guests; one-two to six-eight marriage ceremony members; a simple wedding car to expensive and huge wedding cars; three course meals to course meals; one-three live bands; simple attire to colorful and flamboyant dresses, suits and attire and off-the-cuff to well-prepared wedding speeches.
While we’re talking about the second, wedding speeches continue to be an important part of being married and guests do look ahead to hearing them, speaking about them before, during and indeed after they’ve been delivered.
We have all heard of wedding speeches delivered ahead of the meal, through the meal and after the meal, yet it’s of the strong opinion that the father of the bride speech ought to be delivered as soon as the meal. I realize that for most bridal party speakers i.e. Father of the Bride Speech, Father in the Groom Speech, Bride Speech, Groom Speech and Bestman Speech (the 5 main speakers), they might would rather contain the wedding speeches ahead of the meal, to enable them to enjoy their meal (a number of them are spending money for it!). The wedding ceremony speeches act as the transition from your meal for the dancing (broke and alone happening following your meal, folks are expecting ‘a few words’ to get shared concerning the Bride & Groom after which it they know they could get out of bed, move around, take a rest, go for a walk, visit the bar…)
It’s not easy for parents with the Bride & Groom to speak in public areas, as the majority of them wouldn’t be used than it. So, they may, if they so wished, speak ahead of the / their meal.
There should nevertheless be some form of formal speech(es) following the meal…
