At Acorn Safety Companies the range of services we offer has continued to grow – and so too has our team of professional health and safety consultants.
Earlier this year we launched a whole new legionella bacteria service, providing risk assessments as well as testing to help organizations, charities and organisations in the public market identify and evaluate their risk of contact with potentially deadly legionella.
In July, we were delighted to welcome Adam Midson to Acorn Safety Services as our new Legionella and Fire Consultant. Adam will develop this growing area of the business which is focused on helping people to try to avoid the effects of legionella germs.
In this blog, Adam points out more about his position and how Acorn Safety Companies can support you.
‘Here to aid with all of your health as well as safety needs’
I am happy to have joined the c’s at Acorn Safety Companies at such an interesting time. Acorn has strong ambitions for the future, especially around its legionella bacteria services, and I can’t delay to be part of it.
I’ve spent many years working in the water industry, in domestic plumbing and remedials and more not too long ago gaining valuable experience carrying out legionella risk checks.
I’ve already been on the road meeting our clients face-to-face, along with I’m really looking forward to building these important connections.
‘What is legionella bacteria and am I at risk?’
Legionella bacteria is microscopic and can be found in streams, streams, reservoirs and waters, usually in really low numbers, where they don’t cause any problems. The difficulty comes when these tiny bacteria get trapped inside your water system and multiply, potentially leading to Legionnaires’ Disease.
According to the Govt, there were 503 cases of Legionnaires’ Illness in the UK in 2019. It’s a serious illness which can be deadly – symptoms to understand include fever, head ache, cough and lack of breath.
While legionella bacteria may cause problems anywhere in the right conditions, some areas such as locations where water is actually stored or recirculated, the place that the water temperature is in between 20-45°C or where oxidation, sludge, scale as well as organic matters can be found, are considered to be from much higher risk.
Those who are more susceptible to infection, including the elderly and the ones with weakened immunity processes, need to be especially cautious.
‘So, what can I do to shield myself and those close to me?’
Employers, the actual self-employed, facilities managers, safe practices officers and property managers, are all among those who’ve a duty to protect men and women against the risks related to legionella bacteria.
The rules around legionella bacteria are really complex and testing needs to be carried out by an expert – this is where Acorn Safety Providers can really help.
A full Legionella Danger Assessment carried out by our qualified assessors is the initial important step in identifying and assessing your own personal risk.
The survey will be for any non-Water Regulations Endorsement Scheme approved accessories, assess your chilly water tank and conditions in your hot water cylinder and accessibility to all areas that require monitoring as well as maintenance by law.
At the end of the assessment, you will receive a full report that will include any advice about remedial work along with repairs and steps you should take up coming.
To make things easier still for you to manage, we offer a free online web site where our consumers can store their particular risk assessment files safely and securely online making certain they are fully offered whenever you need them.
And because Acorn Safety Services is a fully-independent health and safety working as a consultant, you can be sure that suggestions we offer is with your very best self interests at heart.
We look forward to working with an individual soon.
