Keeping up with the expression “it is the thing that it is”? Simply what does that expression mean exactly?
Before I understood the deeper concept of this expression, I envisioned an emaciated yogi guru in the lotus position floating across the ground imperiously imparting wisdom that would take scholars multiple lifetimes to interpret. Since this really is my last life on this planet and also the lotus position would put me in traction, I knew that consulting the program In Miracles would help me clarify its meaning.
Exactly what is the IT that we are covering here? According to the Course in Miracles, It’s truth, specifically God’s truth. Why is it imperative that you emphasize that it is God’s truth? Because God’s simple truth is not ready to accept interpretations whereas a human’s simple truth is. Multiple versions of human truth have cause a many religions. The Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia defines religion like a “system of thought, feeling, and action that is certainly shared by the group which provides the members an item of devotion.”
Who devised the device of thought? On whose feelings are these thoughts based? Are actions really necessary? In line with the Course In Miracles, God just is and our ultimate goal would be to return to an ideal condition of being. There’s no thought or action inside the condition of being, you only are. What mustn’t be forgotten could be the underlying thread of most religions: God is creator, God is love and we’re all perfect and infinite children of God.
Put one way, “it is the thing that it is” can be rewritten to “God’s love is the only truth which is absolute” and also this truth knows no bounds and is also timeless.
