Keeping up with the expression “it is the thing that it is”? Exactly what does that expression mean exactly?
Before I understood the deeper concise explaination this expression, I envisioned an emaciated yogi guru inside the lotus position floating above the ground imperiously imparting wisdom that will take scholars multiple lifetimes to interpret. Since this can be my last life on earth as well as the lotus position would put me in traction, I knew that consulting the Course In Miracles is needed me clarify its meaning.
Exactly what is the IT that we’re writing about here? According to the Course in Miracles, IT is truth, specifically God’s truth. How come it’s vital that you emphasize it’s God’s truth? Because God’s simple truth is not available to interpretations whereas a human’s simple truth is. Multiple versions of human truth have lead to a many religions. The Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia defines religion as a “system of thought, feeling, and action that is shared by way of a group which provides the members a thing of devotion.”
Who devised the machine of thought? On whose feelings are these thoughts based? Are actions really necessary? In line with the Course In Miracles, God just is and our ultimate goal is to go back to an ideal state of being. There’s no thought or action inside the state of being, you only are. What mustn’t be forgotten could be the underlying thread of religions: God is creator, God is love and we’re all perfect and infinite kids of God.
Put yet another way, “it is what it is” may be rewritten to “God’s love is the only truth and it’s also absolute” and also this truth knows no bounds and is timeless.
